Shirley Ploenzke

Shirley Marie Ploenzke was born on May 3, 1950, the daughter of Arthur and Hazel Johnson. Shirley attended school in Sebeka, Minnesota. On July 14, 1966, Shirley was united in marriage to Duane Ploenzke and together they had three children, the eldest of whom died in early childhood. Shirley and Duane made their home in Sebeka, Minnesota. They were both musically talented and they enjoyed sharing this talent with others performing in their band “Shades of Tyme” with their son Patrick. When Shirley was not busy with her family, she enjoyed sewing, playing bingo, reading mystery novels, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 456 in Sebeka. Following the passing of her husband in 2006, Shirley moved to Alexandria to be closer to her daughter, Penny.

On Tuesday April 7, 2015, Shirley passed away at Knute Nelson at the age of 64. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Duane Ploenzke; daughter, Christine Ploenzke; father, Arthur Johnson; brother, Harlan Johnson, sister, Kathryn Johnson; brother in law, Robert Sadowski; niece, Tonya Johnson; nephew, Paul Roberts; father and mother in law, Edwin and Vera Ploenzke; and grandparents, Henry and Lydia Newhouse.

Shirley is survived by her mother, Hazel (Newhouse) Johnson, daughter, Penny (Mason) Stender, Alexandria, MN, Patrick (Stephanie) Ploenzke, Oberlin, Ohio; grandchildren, Macy Stender, Zander Ploenzke and Marcus Ploenzke; brothers, Harold Johnson, Harvey (Sandra) Johnson; sisters, Sharon Sadowski, Eleanor (Edward) Senour, Marilyn (Bruce) Johnson, and Joann Lobermier.

A Prayer Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April, 18 2015 at the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria, Minnesota. A time of food and fellowship will take place immediately following the service. A private burial will take place at a later time.
