John Eiesland

January 28, 1941 — April 15, 2015

John Rolfe Eiesland (Pronounced Easeland) age 74 of Alexandria died on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Bethany Home. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at West Moe Lutheran Church in Moe Twp, rural Brandon. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

John Rolfe Eiesland was born January 28, 1941 in Inwood, Iowa to Adolph and Hazel (Hegeson) Eiesland. He attended rural schools in Iowa and South Dakota through the eighth grade, and attended Canton High School for a couple years before the family moved to Alexandria where he graduated from Jefferson High School in 1959. He acquired his Bachelor of Education degree from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion in 1963 where he was affiliated with the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and was a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa honorary society.

Rolfe began his teaching career at a high school in Young America, Minnesota, and continued on as an English teacher in high schools in Orono, Golden Valley, Edina, and Hopkins. He directed many plays and musicals in each of these schools as well as coaching debate teams and acting as a debate team adjudicator.

Rolfe's passions were music, theater, the visual arts and world travel. He made approximately twenty trips to Europe enjoying musical concerts, art museums and theatrical productions in many of the great cities of the world. He was a fine cellist and sang for a time with the Bach Choral Society in Minneapolis.

Rolfe died on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Bethany Home in Alexandria at the age of 74. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Hazel Eiesland; a sister, Orrine; a brother, Frederick; a niece, Anne Herrin; two nephews, Fred and Sam; and his life partner, Jerry Milske. He will be missed by his very special friends and his family members.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at West Moe Lutheran Church in Moe Township, Douglas County with Pastor Sarah Evenson officiating. Interment was in West Moe Lutheran Church Cemetery.
