James Bill

July 21, 1950 — November 23, 2015

Jim Bill was born on July 21, 1950, to Arthur and Astrid Bill. Jim was raised in Eagle Bend, MN, where he graduated from high school in 1968. He worked alongside his dad at Bill’s Locker in Eagle Bend. Jim moved to Alexandria in 1973, where he lived and worked for the rest of his adult life. He worked at Carlos Lockers, Red Owl and Pete’s County Market. He had a ten (10) year hiatus from the meat business when he operated a candy vending route and wholesale egg business.

Jim met and married his wife, Vicki, in Alexandria in 1979. Jim and Vicki made their home on Lake Carlos for many years before retiring into town.

Jim was involved in the community. He was a long time member of the Eagles, the Elks and the Knights of Columbus. As a member of the Eagles, Jim served as Aerie Secretary for several years. Jim was also a former Rotarian. As a Rotarian he proudly served on the board and co-chaired the Annual Corn and Pork Chop Feed for the benefit of the Alexandria Fire Department and Rotary Club. Through the Rotary Club, Jim and Vicki hosted a visiting Russian businessman. Jim loved to play golf and was an avid bowler. For many years, Jim organized local bowling teams for participation in tournaments.

Jim had such a big heart. He was a kind and compassionate man who always smiled and said “Hello” to everyone. He had the most positive attitude, which allowed him to survive fifteen (15) years of heart disease. Ironically, it was Jim’s big heart that took him away from us on Monday, November 23, 2015, at Abbott Heart Hospital, Minneapolis. Jim was on the heart transplant list and looked forward to being an advocate for organ donations.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and brother-in-in-law and Vicki’s Dad.

In addition to his wife Vicki, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Delores, and Vicki’s two sisters and their husbands, Julie and Harvey and Diane and Joe. Several nieces and nephews, an aunt and cousins also survive.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, November 28, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Steve Binsfeld officiating.
