Gerald Brockopp

Gerald Harvey Brockopp was born October 25, 1932, one of four children to Reverend Robert and Malinda (Bauman) Brockopp of Alexandria, MN. Gerald’s father was a minister that served many churches in the Alexandria area and was baptized and confirmed by his father in Alexandria. Gerald graduated from Central High School in 1951. After graduating he was drafted in the Army. While in the Army he earned the rank of sergeant in the quarter master crew and served in Korea. After returning from the service he married Dorothy Hoppe on November 27, 1954. To this union three children were born, Bruce, Steven and Timothy. Gerald started his collegiate education at the University of Minnesota, studying architecture. He continued taking classes at the Minneapolis Business College in Minneapolis for accounting and business law. In his life, Gerald worked for several insurance companies and had several rental properties including the Lake View Motel in Alexandria. While working for Snyder Drug Company in Minneapolis as a manager, he won many national display awards.

Gerald loved to travel with Dorothy. Some of their favorite’s destinations were Australia, New Zealand, Greece and Turkey. Gerald was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria and the American Legion. Gerald and Dorothy were long time members of a square dance club. He enjoyed playing cards and volunteering with his wife, Dorothy.

Gerald died on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at the age of eighty three. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brothers, Harold and Elenore Brockopp, Harry and Beverly Brockopp, sister, Irene and Carl Haberer.

He is survived by his wife of almost sixty one years, Dorothy; sons, Bruce Brockopp and wife, Sharon of Alexandria, Steven Brockopp and wife, Rosemary, of Buffalo Lake and Timothy Brockopp of Alexandria; grandchildren, Amber Brockopp and Titan Brockopp; many special cousins, nieces, nephews and friends; and his nephew Jerome Haberer, the only surviving relative on the extended side of the Brockopp family.
